Here comes Christmas!!

December will be here before we know it!!

Its a very exciting and busy time of year where there’s lots of Christmas cheer and beer and snacks and parties and OH DEAR how do you keep yourselves on track so that when January comes around you are not having to start all over again!!

One thing about living in the Whitsundays… its a social place, its summer, and Christmas is celebrated mostly with friends, family and parties so your normally healthy routine can spiral out of control before you realise.

While being offered some delectable delicious desserts at your upcoming work or street party, how do you keep in mind your commitment to exercise and nutrition and stay strong - Yep it’s tough!

SOOO, here are some tips to survive the festive season, still have your fun and come out the other side not too far off track!

  1. Don’t go out hungry - eat something light before you go, that way it’s easier to say no to the afternoon snacks and stay on track for dinner

  2. Keep your alcohol light and few - have a couple enjoy yourself but really who needs a hangover!! And plus alcohol goes hand in hand with eating things you wouldn’t normally add to your day

  3. Keep up your exercise!

A FIT LIFE by Tonya will be providing the same regular sessions right the way through December (apart from Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Years Day and the 2nd Jan) so if staying in Airlie Beach for Christmas head to the sessions tab and check out my times)

  4. Got family visiting - either bring them along or get out and about in the Whitsundays, and enjoy some activity by walking, swimming and generally getting active - perhaps challenge the family to 10,000 steps a day, play cricket, Frisbee, play with the kids new toys, the options are endless, and it keeps you moving and having fun.

  5. Don’t make this a time to lose weight, be realistic, there will be some slip ups and some yummy chocolates, so don’t beat yourself up, but don’t fall completely off the wagon.

  6. WATER, WATER, WATER - December is hot in Airlie Beach! Just got to think more water, oh and between drinks - yep more water. It fills us up, hydrates you and dilutes the alcohol.

  7. Plan your day, do an early morning walk or body weight routine (because you won’t have a hangover), keep healthy food in the fridge, stock up with extras for those unexpected visitors - Summer BBQ’s with a yummy salad vs the heavy calorie dense cheese and dips. (I know - I like cheese too!)

  8. And… you don’t have to say yes to every invite!

Start now with these tips through November and you’ll be a PRO leading into December and a success story in January! You’ve Got This!!
