Processed Foods are no good!

Let's take a moment to talk about processed foods! 🍔🍕

We've all heard about it.... Processed foods are foods that have been altered in some way from their natural state. This can include anything from canned vegetables, frozen dinners, instant noodles, to everyday items like bread and cheese. 🧀🍞

These alterations can involve cooking, canning, freezing, fortification, or preserving, and are usually done to make food safer, longer-lasting, or more convenient to eat. However, not all processed foods are bad. Some can be quite nutritious like canned beans or frozen fruits and vegetables! 🍓🍒

The unhealthy part comes when foods are ultra-processed. These foods often include a long list of ingredients, including added sugars, unhealthy fats, and sodium. They're usually high in additives and calories and low in nutrients - think chips, soda, and ready-to-eat and fast food meals, even store bought cakes and cookies. Very little green!

So, while it's almost impossible to avoid all processed foods, try to limit the ultra-processed ones!👌

Start looking at what you are consuming, know your foods, read your labels and remember, you are what you eat! 🍏🥦🍠
